Cargill has been active in Egypt since 1994 and is headquartered in Cairo. As well as its trading activities in Cairo and Alexandria, Cargill also have a significant shareholding in a soyabean processing plant - The National Vegetable Oil Company (NVOC) - in Alexandria, and a majority shareholding in a grain discharge terminal - The National Stevedore Company (NSC) - in Dekheila. Cargill has activities in the following areas in Egypt: • grain trading for feed and food applications
• soyabean processing
• sugar trading
2004 - Cargill combines with a number of Egyptian banks to complete a restructure of the National Vegetable Oil Company (NVOC) in Alexandria. Cargill now has a significant shareholding in the NVOC and has full operational responsibilities, along with a majority shareholding in the National Stevedore Company (NSC), a grain discharge terminal in the port of Dekheila 2004 - Production commences at the NVOC plant 2006 - Cargill increases its interest in the National Stevedore Company (NSC) to a 51% majority shareholding.
• Cargill has recently contributed to the Children's Cancer Hospital in Cairo, due to open in June 2006.
• NVOC employees have donated time to support a local Orphan's Association in Borg Al-Arab, near the soyabean crush plant.
