Cargill has been active in Belgium since 1953 and now has around 800 employees in nine locations in the country - Antwerp (two locations), Izegem (two locations), Ghent, Herent, Vilvoorde, Mechelen and Moeskroen. Cargill has a unique position as a high volume processor of rapeseed and soybeans in the country.Cargill has activities in the following areas in Belgium:
• grain and oilseed trading • oilseed crushing, refining, bottling and hardening • malt production • industrial chocolate • sweeteners and starches |
• food and feed ingredients sales • specialty food ingredients including texturisers • research and development • lecithin and protein sales |
2006 - Cargill acquired Degussa’s food ingredients business plants.
2006 - Cargill announced its intention to form a joint venture with Bioro and Vanden Avenne Izegem to construct a 200,000 tonne biodiesel plant in Ghent. Cargill also intends to construct a new 300,000 tonne vegetable oil refinery and convert its existing soyabean crush plant into a multi-crush plant based on both soyabeans and rapeseed.
2005 - Cargill announced significant investments at its Moeskroen industrial chocolate facility.
2005 - Cargill announced significant investments at its Izegem facility to boost the production capacity of liquid and tropical oils.
2003 - Cargill opened a new office in Mechelen, which becomes the new Cerestar head office.
2002 - Cargill acquired the remaining 50% of the shares in Associated Oil Packer’s bottled oils business from Vandemoortele.
2002 - Cargill acquired Cerestar, a leading provider of starch and starch derivatives - the largest acquisition in Cargill's history. This acquisition included Cerestar's research and development laboratory in Vilvoorde.
